This is a technology used by the modern search engines to determine the nature and quality of online content.

If someone goes to Google and searches for “Matrix Trilogy”, Google is going to examine its database to determine which page is the best match for that search term. How does it do that? Well, in days of old, it would look for the web page that had “Matrix Trilogy” in the domain name, the filename, in an H1 header, in meta tags, in ALT tags, and in the main body of the document with a magical density of 5.4%. Nowadays, that would be considered spamming. The search engines use LSI to help determine the quality of the content. No longer is the search engine primarily concerned with the phrase “Matrix Trilogy”, but more with the supporting words on the page. These “supporting words” (or theme words as I call them) are the kind of words that would appear naturally on a page written about the Matrix Trilogy by someone who knows and loves the films. They might include words like: Neo, Agent Smith, reloaded, revolutions, Morpheus, Trinity, The Oracle, Persephone, Zion, Keanu Reeves, and so on. Surely a good page written on the Matrix Trilogy would include these words?? Well that’s the basis of LSI, and like it or not, you need to change the way you create your content.
