Market Samurai PBR - Phrase to Broad match Ratio is really useful to help understand what keyword combinations and more importantly order of keywords people type in at the search engines.

For the last 8 months or so I have been on a diet. Long hours sitting at a desk all day had added inches to my waist line, so I decided to do something about it. Besides increasing my activity levels, I also went on a diet, or rather a lifestyle change. This new way of eating has helped me not only lose weight, but keep it off.

The best thing about the diet is that I can still drink beer, eat cake or chocolate if I want to, and not put weight on. The diet I follow is called the Every Other Day Diet

Below is a video showing how PBR is helpful. If you don’t own Market Samurai, you can download a free trial and have a try for yourself. Market Samurai Free Trial.

I remember hearing someone talking about a cake diet, and wondered if one actually existed and also if there was a demand for this phrase. I thought that if people were searching for a cake diet, I could promote this diet to them since although not technically a cake diet, the diet did let you eat cake or any other treat you wanted – in fact the diet demands you do.

I opened up Market Samurai.

Market Samurai offers a wealth of information about your keyword data, but one piece of the jigsaw that causes a lot of confusion is PBR. This stands for Phrase-to-Broad match Ratio.

Market Samurai’s PBR is a really useful metric for analyzing what people actually search for. You can think of PBR as a confidence level if you like, ie how confident are you that people actually search for a particular phrase? The higher the PBR, the more confident you can be that people are actually searching for that phrase with the words in that particular order.

e.g. Market Samurai tells me that the phrase “chocolate cake diet” only has a PBR of 13%, meaning very few people actually search for that particular phrase.

In fact, as you look through the “cake diet” data, it looks like more people are actually searching for “diet cake” recipes rather than a specific diet where you eat cake!

In the video, we’ll look at how Market Samurai not only tells you where the page ranks, but also tracks it over time with a nice graph that can also show you a wealth of other information like:

Page rank changes over time

different pages on your site that rank for the same term

back links to your page (and site) over time

Rankings over time in Google, Yahoo & Bing

plus lots more

Here is the video of how this rank checker works:

This video shows you how to compensate for the keyword research tools.
What????

Yes, I know it sounds strange.

To illustrate my point, I wanted to highlight one page on my diabetes site (the one I built in my "Wordpress for Affiliates Sites" Course).

Using a few of the most popular keyword research tools, I tried to research keyword phrases related to that page. The keyword research tools didn’t do badly. Between them, they managed to come up with 10 – 15 phrases related to that page.

I then headed over to Google Analytics to check how many phrases the page had been found for. Analytics showed me over 600.

In this tutorial I want to share with you my technique for narrowing down a niche into a micro niche, and evaluating it to see if it would be worth targeting for a mini-adsense site. Feel free to leave a comment at the end of this page.

NOTE: There is a button on the video panel to enlarge to full screen. Its easier to see what’s going on that way.

I honestly didn’t know that Colin was using my tool for his credit card site, so I asked him about the video, and his use of KRA Pro.

Here are some actual quotes from that conversation::

“KRA Pro REALLY is the BEST SEO tool I have ever used ……

 #1 in Google in 9 minutes ……

 #3 in Google in 22 minutes …….

#3 in Google in 52 minutes…. That one really ******* me off because it took so long”. Colin McDougall

The three rankings above were all on his credit card site!!!

Colin told me he has a “98% Success rate when using KRA Pro”.

KRA Pro has finally been unleashed on competitors websites near you!!!

The original KRA allowed you to:

Manage large lists of keyword data.

Import Keyword Data from most keyword research tools and services.

Filter your data in very complex ways to show only those phrases that meet your criteria.

Sort by any column.

Create a number of different reports, including outputting the keywords in Adwords friendly formats..

Split large databases into smaller ones.

The features listed above are nothing new. Since KRA hit the market a few years ago, there have been a number of keyword applications that have added those features. However, KRA has always been one step ahead of its “competition”.

KRA can also:

Find hidden “sub-niches” within the database using the innovative “Niche Within A Niche” feature.

Find theme words for any “primary phrase” you want to target on a web page, using the keywords in your database to tell you what words and phrases are relevant.

Much, much more.

Only after you really understand how powerful KRA is, can you truly appreciate what KRA Pro is capable of. I recommend you watch this KRA overview video that shows the old KRA! We’ll look at the newer, improved KRA Pro when you get back….. Have you watched the video? Good! Before we look at the new features found in KRA Pro, let me just make one thing perfectly clear. KRA Pro can do everything that KRA can do, and more…. That means if you own KRA Pro, you do not need KRA.

“Andy.. I have purchased a lot of different software over the years from a lot of so called super affiliates. Once they have your email address you get bombarded with email’s from them trying to sell other products. I have been impressed with the quality of software that you produce, the video’s that accompany it, and the swift replies from you. KRA Pro is an excellent piece of software that is very well priced, and I look forward to building small niches from its results for years to come.. Kevin Foulds www.NewOnlineBusinesses.Com“

Latent Semantic Indexing was the initial inspiration behind KRA Pro

Search engines are constantly evolving, finding new ways to rank web pages and remove the spam from their index. In recent years, latent semantic indexing (LSI) has been the buzz word of SEO specialist everywhere. This is a technology used by the modern search engines to determine the nature and quality of online content.

“Keywords are the lifeblood of online business and knowing exactly what and how to target keywords is going to make the difference between success and failure…. To ensure your success you MUST have KRA PRO. Colin McDougall - VEO Report “

If someone goes to Google and searches for “Matrix Trilogy”, Google is going to examine its database to determine which page is the best match for that search term. How does it do that? Well, in days of old, it would look for the web page that had “Matrix Trilogy” in the domain name, the filename, in an H1 header, in meta tags, in ALT tags, and in the main body of the document with a magical density of 5.4%. Nowadays, that would be considered spamming. The search engines use LSI to help determine the quality of the content. No longer is the search engine primarily concerned with the phrase “Matrix Trilogy”, but more with the supporting words on the page. These “supporting words” (or theme words as I call them) are the kind of words that would appear naturally on a page written about the Matrix Trilogy by someone who knows and loves the films. They might include words like: Neo, Agent Smith, reloaded, revolutions, Morpheus, Trinity, The Oracle, Persephone, Zion, Keanu Reeves, and so on. Surely a good page written on the Matrix Trilogy would include these words?? Well that’s the basis of LSI, and like it or not, you need to change the way you create your content.

KRA Pro adds advanced thematic features

While the original KRA touched upon the idea of themeing by allowing users to find “theme words” for any phrase using the keyword data in their database, KRA Pro expands upon this idea of themeing, and introduces features that use live web results to get theme words. The original KRA required you to carry out comprehensive keyword research before you could find theme words for a phrase. KRA could then intelligently find theme words from the phrases in your database. KRA Pro gives you another option. With KRA Pro, you can find theme words for phrase(s) using:

The keywords in your database (as with the original KRA).

Top ranking web pages (using meta tags of those pages, or a combination of meta tags and on-page content of those pages)

This second option is really useful as it tends to provide high quality “theme words”, and of course, you can do this for any phrase, even if you have not done any comprehensive research in that niche. e.g. If you want to write an article on “blue widgets”, but you have never researched blue widgets before, or there are very few related phrases in your database, then simply type “blue widgets” into KRA Pro’s spider, and 15 to 20 seconds later, you’ll have theme words plus two-, three- and four-word phrases related to “blue widgets”. It’s quick, it’s targeted and it’s easy.

KRA Pro & Site Blueprinting

Since KRA Pro has these advanced routines for finding theme words, it only made sense to me during development of KRA Pro to take this one step further, and consider complete site blueprints. Within KRA Pro you can map out entire websites in minutes, rather than days, and after you have specified exactly which phrases you want to target with web pages, KRA Pro can be set in motion to automatically come up with lists of theme words for every single page. Plan a 500 page site, and KRA will find you the theme words for all 500 pages, all by itself. It is of course advisable to go through the results, and clean them up a little, but what would normally be weeks of work, can now be done by KRA Pro, while you go off for a round of golf. Once your site blueprints are ready, you have a number of export formats (more are planned). Probably the most popular export format is the “complete skeleton site” (based on a simple template that you can create yourself). That’s an entire site just waiting for you to add content. Another export format is really useful. I call it the “Article Summary” report. This is basically a list of all pages you need to create content for, with main phrase and theme words highlighted for each page. Its a great report to give your ghost writers, or just keep on file for yourself as reference material while you build your site. In the future, I will be looking to add to these export formats.

“KRA Pro is undoubtedly the best program of it’s kind available today. It also has something which I have found lacking in other programs – Loads of tutorials including video and very good after sales support. It is also very reasonably priced considering the sophistication of the software. Anon - Online Survey of KRA Pro owners “

Here is the process for creating a site blueprint:

Research Niche at your chosen keyword research tool.

Create a new Site Blueprint in KRA Pro so that you can start defining your new site..

Use the power of KRA Pro to decide on “main phrases” for homepage, main pages, articles etc, and plug them into the blueprint with simple point and click. There are a number of optional settings like directories (for creating silo blueprints), page titles and descriptions etc.

Choose your preferences for finding theme words for your pages.

Let KRA Pro get to work and find your theme words.

Output your blueprint to the desired format.

With KRA Pro you get all of the power of KRA, plus the advanced word themeing and site blueprinting features.

“Good Lord in Heaven! How could any site builder *possibly* fail with this kind of power at his fingertips? I can see that there’ll be some work involved (e.g., setting up the template, creating article titles, etc.), but certainly within a matter of only hours one can have the entire site laid out, ready for the insertion of articles as you write them (or have them written). Using ghost-writers, I suppose you could create a highly-themed, highly-relevant, 50-page site on a weekly basis. Even writing the articles yourself, you could probably do such a site on a monthly basis. Andy, I am floored by the scope of your dream and by the thoroughness of your execution of that dream. Bill – (blog comment)”

Just imagine unleashing the FULL Potential of KRA Pro

Other features include:

Keyword Database management allowing you to import keyword data from just about any keyword research tool/service, including automated imports from Nichebot, and quick email imports for Wordtracker.

Sort, order and use advanced filters to pull out exactly the keywords you need from your database using your own strict criteria. e.g. a simple filter might pull out all phrases that contain the words “blue” AND “widget” but NOT “green” . You might then like to sub-filter those results and pull out only those with less than 1000 competing pages, but 5 or more searches in 24 hours. How about pulling out only those phrases that contains “question words” like “how”, “what”, “which”, “where”, etc? These make ideal topics for content!!

Find sub-niches in your keyword research automatically with the innovative “Niche within a niche” feature.

Find theme words and secondary phrases from your keyword database to include on your pages, again, at the click of a few buttons.

Divide up your larger keyword databases into smaller ones for easier management.

Create complete Site Blueprints and KRA Pro can create the skeleton HTML pages for you (or some other formats) – you just add the content. You define which phrases you want to use for pages of you site (even define folders if you want to), and KRA Pro can actually find theme words for all of them – AUTOMATICALLY, either from your own keyword database OR by using the keywords on the top ranking pages in Google.

Nichebot is a keyword research tool with a lot of extra features. One of the problems I have had with this tool over the years is that it is constantly changing, both appearance, features and keyword sources. However, if you take the time to learn this tool, there is a wealth of information available. I have spoken with Jin Morris of Nichebot recently, and he tells me a lot more changes are coming, and these should be for the better. A new interface is on its way, as well as some new data.

I’ll be writing a full review of Nichebot soon, followed by specific Nichebot tutorials. Check back soon..

Rank Checker – check how your site ranks for your targeted keyword phrases.

Keyword Research – comprehensive data returned in this excellent keyword research module.

SEO Competition – get a snapshot of the top 10 pages in Google, and how they stack up.

Monetization – help with adding affiliate products & adsense to your pages.

Find Content – find articles in your niche, which can act as research for your own content.

Publish Content – This module allows you to post to blogs from within Market Samurai.

Promotion – Helps you find quality backlinks.

Adwords – this module has not been released yet.

Watch out for a full review in the next few days. In the meantime, why not download a trial version of Market Samurai?
